could not conserve their own language (Maleku). The people offer their ceramics
at the street between Nicoya and Santa Cruz. You find very nice pottery,

Located in the
national park La Amistad before the Carribbean platform. The predators and
monkeys in this area got hunted by the indians. The governement declared the
area to a protected zone because of deforestation. It is not developed for
tourism. If you want to visit, inform yourself in the settlement of Pandorra,
which is next to the reserve.

The Sixaola, Bribri
and Cabecar belong to the people of Talamanca of the race of the Huetar. The
people could survive in the areas in the rain forest at the mountains of the
Cordillera de Talamance, which is very hard to access. They saved their life,
their language and their culture, which is orientated in adjustment
to the nature.

You can reach this
reserve, which is considered to be the most visitor friendly, best way from
Buenos Aires passing the villages Brujo and Terraba. In contrast to the other
reserves of the country, people from this small settlement in the green valley
will always welcome you. Of course they think a little about themselves, but why
not? They try to sell hand made art work to increase there small income from
agricultural.
You will see girls and
women of all age in front of their cabins, producing tablecloth, dresses,
blankets and leather goods in traditional technic. The men from the reserve
carve wooden masks or engrave pumpkins with different scenes of the country.
Time seemed to stop
there a long time ago, life goes on without stress and rush, but surviving is
often hard.
Please support these people by doing some
shopping there instead of in the tourist shops. Prices are low and the products
will be an ever lasting souvenier, when you are back to regular hectic life.
